Life and Death!



We often hear that phrase and most times it is hyperbole but in this case, it isn't.

In this recent article from Automotive News, talks about deaths in Ford and CDJR products. Most automotive brands have had a fatality due to airbags. This is not a new issue. A 2014 NY Times article states that over 300 deaths had occurred from GM airbag issues going back to 2003.


These don't need to happen. Every major manufacturer has recalled airbags.


What can dealers do to get these in their shops, fixed, and prevent these deaths from happening? We suggest that dealers make it as easy as possible for customers to get this done. Offering a free loaner car or providing pick up and drop off service. Nick Mottas Co-Founder of HopDrive, a pick-up and drop-off concierge service, says that 80% of dealership customers would be more likely to bring their cars in if a dealership offered pick-up and drop-off service. 50% of those customers said they would even be willing to pay $20 to have the service available to them.


Check your own vehicle! It only takes a minute to check to see if your vehicle has a recall. All you need to do is grab your VIN from your car, either on the bottom of the window on the driver's side or the driver's door jam. It will also be on your insurance card/app. Go to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Recall Check website and put in your vin. If you have a recall, it will show you all you need to know. Then it is as simple as going to your local dealership's website and scheduling a service appointment with them to get it fixed. IT IS FREE OF CHARGE TO YOU AS A CONSUMER TO GET A RECALL FIXED. No matter how old your car is, you need to check and see if the airbag in it has a recall.


Again, there are no excuses for this to still be happening. Check your car, get it in, and get it fixed.
